What To Bring

What To Bring:

  • Lunch, Snacks, and Drinks
  • Sunscreen – An absolute must! The sun at our altitude can be very intense and burns skin easily.
  • Proper clothing for various weather conditions (coat, hat, gloves, sweater, long sleeve shirt, long pants, UV clothing if you have it. Be sure to dress in layers)
  • Cooler for transporting fish home (ice/cold packs are always helpful to keep your fish cool if you have a long drive home.)

Additional Items To Consider Bringing:

  • Sunglasses
  • Camera/GoPro
  • Blanket (if you get cold easily we recommend bringing a blanket to put over your legs for the boat ride. It can get a little chilly in the early morning.)
  • Kid Activities: Toys, Books, Coloring books, etc.

For more helpful tips on what to bring/wear read our article on Dressing In Layers.

Allergies

Safety is key so if you, or a member of your fishing party, has a known allergy we ask that you bring anything that you would use/need in case of an emergency.

Fishing Seasons

Spring fishing is fantastic… as you can see in our photo gallery. Book your trip from mid-April to late May for the best chance at a fish of a lifetime! Lake Trout and Brown Trout lurk the shallower flats and become more accessible with the break up of the ice and cooler water temps.

Without a doubt, the cool Summer months on Blue Mesa Reservoir are best for red-hot angling action! This lake has one of the largest populations of Kokanee Salmon in the nation and Summer is the time to get ‘em. The Rainbow trout population has also been booming in the last few years, keeping anglers busy. Don’t forget about the trophy fish…they’re still here! This is the optimal time to book your guided fishing trips!

With Fall comes cooler temps and the quieting of the lake.  Many anglers are heading home for the season and families are heading back to school but few know that this is when Blue Mesa Reservoir is really on fire! Trout fishing is at it’s all-time best in the Fall.  Lake Trout and Browns are headed to shallow waters to spawn making them much more accessible to anglers.

During the winter months ice forms and covers most, if not all, of Blue Mesa.  Fish also head to the bottom of the lake where the warmer water has settled.  These factors make finding those monster fish a bit of a challenge but definitely not impossible.
